On the 24th of January, Damascus University President Doctor Wael Mualla met with Ms. Angela Khadija Williams, public relations advisor and high-level official spokeswoman for the American Embassy, and Ms. Bryce Isham, the Embassy’s cultural attaché. The purpose of their meeting was to discuss ways of developing and expanding academic cooperation between the Damascus University and American universities by establishing shared research and academic programs, as well as by drawing upon the experience of American universities in the fields of water management and agriculture, given the importance attached to these two fields by the Damascus University. They also discussed the need to further strengthen and expand existing cooperative endeavors between Damascus University and its American counterparts with regards to Arabic language instruction programs for non-native speakers.

Ms. Williams expressed the American Embassy’s readiness to offer support for the development of the Damascus University’ Career Center by sending experts to hold workshops in this field, and by providing a volume of university textbooks for English language instruction, thereby contributing to and expanding the resources of the university’s libraries.
Ms. Aisham also gave a presentation of the various scholarships and programs offered by the American Embassy to both students and teaching faculty.
