On February, 21st, DU's Faculty of Architecture held a reception for the class of 117 new architects who graduated from the faculty in July 2010. In attendance was the President of the National Bureau of Higher Education, Doctor Yasser Hurrieh.
During his speech at the reception, Damascus University President Dr. Wael Mualla urged the graduates to be good envoys for their university and their nation, by actively contributing to the country's development and growth. He also stressed the need to supplement the labor market with highly qualified architects.

Dr. Mualla also praised the Faculty of Architecture's distinguished reputation. He told those gathered that simply being accepted into the faculty, which will soon celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of its founding, is in and of itself considered a great achievement deserving recognition.
During the event, Dr. Pierre Nano, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, stated: "Today you begin your real training. As you start your careers, you will embark upon the long journey towards understand the secrets of architecture. You are now responsible for upholding the honor of this profession, and confronting its challenges, by employing the field's most modern techniques and technologies. You are also responsible for upholding the reputation of your university, as you compete with graduates of other universities and institutes."

Members of the National Union of Students also gave a brief speech on behalf of the graduating students, thanking everyone who helped the graduates reach this point, and expressing their determination to excel in their professional lives, instilled with a deep sense of national responsibility.
